Who is the best CEO for your organization?  You may well be surprised.  Boards today are buffeted with myriad rules and guidelines about leadership succession, but some of what goes for conventional wisdom is misguided or not supported by empirical fact.  The best leader may be right in front of you … or somewhere you never expected.

About Our Speaker:

James M. Citrin is a member of Spencer Stuart’s worldwide board of directors and co-leads the North American Board & CEO Practice. Throughout his 18 years at Spencer Stuart, Jim has completed more than 475 CEO, board director, CFO and other top management searches. His diverse client work includes leading media, technology, communications and consumer companies, as well as other multinational corporations, private-equity firms and not-for-profit institutions.

A noted expert on leadership, governance and professional success, Jim is the author of six books, including bestsellers The Dynamic Path, Lessons from the Top, The 5 Patterns of Extraordinary Careers, and You’re in Charge – Now What? His newest book, You Need a Leader-Now What? (October 2011), is based on the groundbreaking Spencer Stuart CEO Transition Study, published in the November 2010 Harvard Business Review. Jim graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Vassar College in 1981 and served as a trustee on the Vassar Board for 12 years, where he co-chaired the nominating committee. He obtained his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1986, earning first- and second-year honors and graduating with distinction. In addition, Jim is a trustee at Wesleyan University and a board member of the Cancer Research Institute.
